dual head with xrandr

I use a laptop with the 915GM chipset. This means that I can use xrandr (yes!!!!). During login I (automatically) run the following little script that checks if I have plugged in the external monitor and if so splits the screen. If I later on unplug the monitor I simply run the script again and same goes for replugging it.

#!/bin/sh

VGA_USED=$(xrandr | grep -c “VGA connected” )
LVDS_USED=$(xrandr | grep -c “LVDS connected” )

setup_dual_head()
{
xrandr –output LVDS –auto –pos 0x0 –left-of VGA
}

setup_mono_head()
{
xrandr –output LVDS –auto
}

if [ “$VGA_USED” == “1” ]
then
setup_dual_head
else
setup_mono_head
fi

To make this work make sure you have setup X correctly. In the screen section I have the following important part (note the virtual size):

SubSection “Display”
Viewport 0 0
Modes “1280×1024”
Virtual 2560 1824
Depth 24
EndSubSection

Top 10 albums, #2: Neil Young / After the gold rush

Neil Young / After the gold rush

  1. Tell Me Why
  2. After the Gold Rush
  3. Only Love Can Break Your Heart
  4. Southern Man
  5. Till the Morning Comes
  6. Oh, Lonesome Me
  7. Don’t Let It Bring You Down
  8. Birds
  9. When You Dance I Can Really Love
  10. I Believe in You
  11. Cripple Creek Ferry

Don’t Let It Bring You Down – this is I think the best song (well, at least top 5) ever written.

Don’t let it bring you down
It’s only castles burning,
Find someone who’s turning
And you will come around.

Tell Me Why

Is it hard to make
arrangements with yourself,
When you’re old enough to repay
but young enough to sell?

… just noticed I can’t write about the album.

Top 10 albums, #3: The Band / The Band

The Band / The Band

  1. Across the Great Divide
  2. Rag Mama Rag
  3. The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down
  4. When You Awake
  5. Up On Cripple Creek
  6. Whispering Pines
  7. Jemima Surrender
  8. Rockin’ Chair
  9. Look Out, Cleveland
  10. Jawbone
  11. The Unfaithful Servant
  12. King Harvest [Has Surely Come]

Across the Great Divide – a friend of mine (Kent, you should know better) called this a weak track. I’d say it’s one of The Band’s best. I love it.

The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down – Man, this is a classical song. The horns, the melody, the lyrics, everything is there. I remember listening to this song when they showed The Last Waltz on TV. Pure magic.

Virgil Caine is the name, and I served on the Danville train,
‘Til Stoneman’s cavalry came and tore up the tracks again.
In the winter of ’65, We were hungry, just barely alive.
By May the tenth, Richmond had fell, it’s a time I remember, oh so well,

King Harvest – Great song. Excellent lyrics.

Then here come a man with a paper and pen
Tellin’ us our hard times are about to end.
And then, if they don’t give us what we like
He said, “Men, that’s when you gotta go on strike.”

Top 10 albums, #4: Black Sabbath, Vol. 4

Although the album Sabbath Bloody Sabbath contains the best heavy metal song ever (more on that issue another day) this album is the best Sabbath album. And obviously the fourth best album ever, all categories. Why?

  1. Wheels of Confusion/The Straightener
  2. Tomorrow’s Dream
  3. Changes
  4. FX
  5. Supernaut
  6. Snowblind
  7. Cornucopia
  8. Laguna Sunrise
  9. St. Vitus Dance
  10. Under the Sun/Every Day Comes and Goes

Snowblind – the riff is so heavy and the meoldy of Ozzy’s song is so ¤%& beautiful. Easily a candidate for the best heavy metal song. If it wasn’t for XXX, it would have been the best song.

Wheels of Confusion – Can’t say what it is. Probably it is (again) Ozzy’s singing. just love this song.

Tomorrow’s Dream – Masterpeice…. man there’s no word.

I döda sprÃ¥ks sällskap

Läste nyligen ut Ola Wikanders / I döda språks sällskap

Underbart!

8 datorer / 3 kvm, men ingen null modem-kabel
